Resources for the Bible Series
Can we trust the Bible? Aren’t the manuscripts just copies of copies now with multiple errors? What about the books that were “removed” so that the church could exercise control? Who chose what books should be included? Can we trust any of the translations/
This week Gareth will speak about the things that convince him the Bible can be trusted? He cannot cover everything. If you would like to explore other issues, there are the following resources.

How we got the Bible

The ancient manuscripts

The Canon

The history of English translations

On some Sundays (26 July, and 16 August) Kevin Melhop will have resources for sale from Manna Books: Bibles, journals, books about the Bible etc. (Last chance this Sunday to get 20% off Bibles.) If you want more resources on the Bible, including information on every book of the Bible, go to https://sites.google.com/view/66books.

Core Ministry Teams – An Update
We said from the beginning that we would not try to do everything at once as we set up Core Ministry Teams. Despite that, we do have some amazing people who have offered to lead teams, at least, initially to get them up and running. They are:
Worship: Gareth Bruce & Tim Jones Prayer: Paul & Mary Reet
Discipleship: Peter Cheyne Hospitality: Mary Reet
Fellowship: Nick Muirhead Seniors: Elaine Scurr
Evangelism: Annie Yohanan Fairfield/Fuel: Gareth Bruce
Resourcing for Mission: Leeanne McKinlay We do not yet have leaders or teams for Community Ministries, Children & Families, Leadership, or Youth. Gareth is continuing to provide oversight of Children and Families and Youth. Peter continues to oversee Leadership.
If you have ideas or questions about what happens in any of the above areas, feel free to contact the leader. We do not yet have teams for all of those core ministries. If an area interests you and you would like to help develop that area in our church, please talk to Peter or Gareth.

Newcomers Lunch: Sunday 9 August, 12noon-1.30pm at East Taieri Church
If you are new to East Taieri, you are invited to come along and meet other new folk, get to know the pastoral team, staff and leaders and find out more about the church. Contact the office for more information.

Global Missions
Our next distribution to our missional families goes out soon. Those who wish to add to the church allocation for a specified family or to give generally (which means the money will be evenly spilt between the missionaries), please use the East Taieri Church bank account 02 0938 0018236 00 with the name of your nominated missionaries in the reference or place your gift in the offering box in a nominated envelope as soon as possible. Please continue to pray for our missionaries, this is the greatest gift for them.

We are considering buying the stream rights as a church but are still working out the best/honest way to do that. Please let us know if you are interested in watching it, or watching it again. Contact the office. The extra resources mentioned in the movie are available here

Notices to be shared at the 10am Service:
If you would like to share an event or notice at the 10am service it will need to be scheduled into the service planner 2 weeks in advance and will happen only if the space is available – this is to prevent our morning service from going too far over time. Please get in touch with the office to check for spaces in the planner.

Prayer Points:

Pray for those who have signed up for the Alpha Course which runs over the next 10 weeks. Pray that the seed of the Gospel will fall on good soil, upon hearts that are open to receive and into minds that are ready to consider the wonderful truth of Jesus. Pray also for good relationships between the team and those attending.

Pray that the Bible Series will continue to land well and inspire us all as we work through this alongside the Kid’s Church program, who are also doing a series on the Bible. Pray that God’s word will come alive for us and that we would again be excited about the power of God to speak into us as we read and study.

Pray for the children we know who are back into school for the 3rd Term. Pray for both the development of their minds and for the protection of them as they face a wide variety of information and input. Pray for God’s covering over them, that the Spirit will keep watch over them and bring God’s love into their hearts.

Give thanks for the time that Jim and Diane Young were able to spend in Malawi. Pray for the newly formed committees, that they will have commitment and zeal for the work. Pray for the upcoming training of Sunday School Teachers in the southern most part of Malawi.
