Weekly E-News:

This is our first week without a printed bulletin.  We are very excited about this new, more efficient way of communication.  It might take a while to get used to, and we may need to tweak things as we go, but we are committed to finding the best solution to communicate everything to our church family in the best way possible.

Here is the news:

Sunday’s Topic – How Can A Good God Do That?

On Sunday at 10am, and 2pm, we start a short 2-week series on Habakkuk, a unique figure among the prophets in that he did not challenge the people with their disobedience and warn of judgement. He had a conversation with God instead.

It would be great if you could read through Habakkuk before Sunday. If you want to dig a little deeper, check out these resources.

Fuel Breakfast Church (78 Main Road, Fairfield): Topic – On God’s Team

Night Church (Dinner starts at 6.30pm) at ET Church: Panel Discussion – Hearing from God

Universe Designed – 17 July at Dunedin Elim

Universe Designed is a Christian apologetics documentary that explores how faith and reason come together to reveal the truth about God’s existence. Through in-depth interviews with some of the world’s leading Christian thinkers—such as Dr. Frank Turek, Dr. Hugh Ross, J. Warner Wallace, Alisa Childers, and Sean McDowell—the film presents a compelling case for the God of the Bible.

This is a free event, but tickets are required. Get yours online. Hold off getting your tickets – we are looking into holding our own watch party at ET Church

Mission Fellowship AGM

To be held in Oak Lounge, ET Church at 2pm on Tuesday 9th June.  Rev Peter Cheyne will speak on the copy of “Saint Columba: Sixth Century Mission for a 21st Century Church?”

Fellowship over afternoon tea.  All welcome.

Use A Really Useful AI Tool

NotebookLM is a free AI tool for anyone wanting to research a topic or teach a topic. The topic could be Paul’s missionary journeys, ikebana, or which car to buy. It could be valuable for anyone leading a Life Group or preparing a Bible study. Chat with it about your topic or produce a “podcast” or mindmap, or infographic. It really is quite remarkable.

If you would like an introduction to NotebookLM we will hold a workshop at 7:00pm on Thursday 18 June, in Oak Lounge @ ET. You can sit, watch and ask questions, or bring your own laptop and have a go. Think about a topic or two that you would like to explore. Let’s see what it is capable of.

If you are interested, please email Peter – just so he can be a little bit prepared.  Peter@followers.org.nz  But if you just turn up on the evening, that is fine too.

If there is interest, we might have another evening looking at some other useful tools.

Videoing happening in all services:

We are hoping to create a short promotional video that can be used by the church for general use (e.g on website, social media) as well as for recruitment of a senior pastor.

The purpose of the video is to tell our story (who we are as a church community, what we stand for and our mission statement) and will feature some of what we do as a community.

We hope to do some filming in June/ July across the 4 services as well as during some activities. If you don’t wish to be part of this or if you have any questions, please contact Annie Yohannan via the church office. office@etchurch.co.nz

Global Missions:

Our next distribution of our missional families goes out soon.  Those who wish to add to the church allocation for a specific family, or to give generally (which means the money will be evenly split between the missionaries), please use the ET Church bank account 020 0938 0018236 00 with the name of your nominated missionaries in the reference.  Please continue to pray for our missionaries, this is the greatest gift for them.

Some general application questions for all sermons are:

  1. What did you learn about God through this sermon?
  2. What did you learn about yourself?
  3. What did you learn about the person God is calling you to be?
  4. What will you do, or think, or feel differently because of this sermon?
  5. What did the sermon bring up for you personally?
